Update: I upgraded the engine of this bird using the old engine of the Spitfire. I now have a Engine/ESC Hacker: A40-10L 14Pole using a T70 ESC from Graupner to have the telemetry of the power consumption on board etc.
Well - just added a Bf109E Messerschmidt to my warbird arsenal. As I didn't find a kit, I bought it used, and it had crashed once already - from another RC-Pilot. Some damage had been done at the tail, however I was provided a new set of wings I have added. The main reason I did add the new wings was that I always fly with double Power Supply for the RC System in my warbirds, or planes requiring more than the power a ESC can deliver. Thing is, as I only put LiFePo the voltage went up to at least 6 - to 7v and I didn't want to destroy the already existing servos inside.
FYI - I do link the ESC and Bettery at the same time to my receiver, and add a condensator to catch the induced voltage peaks servos that can occur. Check the electric plan at the end.
So far - the following has been put into this bird:
- Servos Graupner 2xDES 578BB, 1xDES 707, 2xDES448 BB MG, Hitex HS75 BB
- GPS Hott Vario from Graupner
- Graupner GR-16 Receiver
- Turnigy Plush 80A w/ UBEC
- Turnigy C5055-600kv Brushless 1.5KW engine
After finishing the new wings, configuring the transmitter and fine tuning what I could on the ground, I took my first flight. It went up - and all I needed to do was fine-trim the Take off and landing flight phases (which in a MC-32 is quite easy. You position the bird, and push one predefined button, and the transmitter stores the data in the trim memory, and takes slow 1.5seconds to adapt to the new neutral positions so you can adapt). A part from that, the bird flew flawless.
A little harder landing on the 2nd flight followed requiring me to re-glue the firewall. the wind was quite strong from the side, so I really had to do some acrobatics to get the bird down. It landed, but as happens with warbirds, nose dived just after the landing.
Anyway - everything fixed, and had yesterday a really nice day to fly with barely wind. That was an awesome flight day!

Her is how I connect the ESC and Battery together - excluding any influence from each power provided to the other. The used Schottky Diode is a MBR2045CT (Handling 45A), and the Condensator is a 16V/3300uF. Instructions on how to build it can be found here in german.
